At six years old, Bodé Owa stood at the gates of the Afrika Shrine in Lagos and watched Fela Kuti — dressed in a golden swimsuit — conduct his band. That image never left him. Decades later, in October 2023, he found the perfect kindred spirits to celebrate that rebellious legacy: bandleader Seba Colson brought together a group of Belgium's finest musicians to celebrate Fela's birthday in an Antwerp bar. What was meant to be one night became a sensation. There's been no turning back since. The Fela Kuti Celebration Band — 10 musicians from Antwerp, Brussels and Wilrijk — has since played festivals like Sfinks, Jazz Op De Hei, Rubirock, Saka Saka, Musica Mundo and Arenberg Crossing Borders. In April 2025, they hosted an epic sold out all-night show at het Bos in Antwerp, performing non-stop until 4:00 AM. With a "one-in, one-out" line streching down the street all night, the band played to a wall-to-wall crowd until the early morning hours. And now the biggest stage yet awaits: they've been officially invited to perform at Felabration 2027, at the legendary New Afrika Shrine in Lagos — Fela Kuti's own stage, organized by his own family.
